Silence & I

Silence is pure beauty

Beauty without imperfection

A space between sounds

A deadness between noise

Quiet, you can hear it, yet you can't hear anything at all

So you could say silence is nothing

A nothing like me

Nothing is there and so nothing there is to judge

I wish I was silence, so no one would judge me……Sunny Sethi

Very, very beautiful.

I've never experienced total silence. I always hear something...

Keshi 18 February 2009 at 05:22

This is a beautiful piece on Silence!

But Silence isnt always NOTHING. To me,

Silence is the awakening SOUND amidst the hollow NOISE.

And NOTHING is often SOMETHING.

You wrote "I wish I was silence."
I blogged about this today, but not nearly as poetically.

Nice....i like it a lot. I love the sound of silence and the serenity around it. this reminds me of the song..."the sound of silence" by simon and garfunkel. have you heard it? check it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hUy9ePyo6Q

I believe you hear yourself in that state called total silence. Correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks a lot, Agnes. I just chanced upon the lines a few years ago and they have stayed with me.

"Awakening sound amidst hollow noise."

Ho! You sounded like a prophet, Kesh. Such profound words. Like Agnes said you always keep hearing something.

Thank you so much, lady.

I don't know the answer.

But to me, there's always something. Birds, air, water, whatever... they all make sounds.

In that sense, you are right, Agnes. Every thing - living or not - has a voice. And you hear them. Great, I say.

I am worried about you, Kesh. Especially after learning that you see things in total darkness. Hope you did not mean Sixth Sense. Ha ha.

Jokes apart, I am worried for real too. Is everything alright? Do tell me.

Such a perfect, thought provoking post. I see I am not the only one who thinks such thoughts. Silence in nature is grand, my favorite place to be.

Dear Soul,
Thank you for this beautiful photograph.
I love the silence...
it is where I hear the still small voice.
Namaste,
Sherry

You look at pictures differently, Sherry. I can say that with such assurance.

Thanks for visiting. Your blog is such a serene place.

Anonymous 24 February 2009 at 21:19

Well thanks that's quite a compliment.

I think you know that I like noise, too. Big noisy cities full of life. I guess there's a balance there.... I am not sure.

Talking To My Soul 25 February 2009 at 03:01

-->Agnes

Right, Agnes. How does one experience silence if there is no noise at all? Silence is absence of noise, right! I am not sure either.

Thanks again.

Yes, but most importantly, what the heck does "gyaan" mean???

I've been unable to figure it out. Is it "trivia" in Hindi or Tamil (my wild guess)? I am mystified. I asked Geoff and he didn't know it either...

Talking To My Soul 26 February 2009 at 00:59

-->Agnes

Hi. I did explain that on your post a little while ago.

Now, you and Geoff can thank me for the "gyaan." Will you? Ha! ha!

It's my honour, Margie, to have you here. The poem, by the way, was by Sunny Sethi. I just quoted it. Call it "borrowing" of some kind.

And the "via" is a great person, I swear.

Thanks for arriving here. Do come back.

Wow.......beautiful indeed.Silence indeed is pure beauty..I believe silence has the loudest voice. It can be a scream, a conversation that can break your heart, or it can be golden..where nothing needs to be said. Beautifully written.

Talking To My Soul 27 March 2009 at 13:52

You are right when you say silence has the loudest voice. One can say without saying anything at all.

Thanks, Poonam. So very much.

Lovely poem!

I like physical silence to rest my body, mind and soul......

I hate emotional silence as it tears people apart; it complicates misunderstandings......

depends on how you judge silence......
