the long search

When you have nowhere to go, go back to yourself.

To Her

Until I loved you,

I wrote verse, drew pictures,

And went out with friends

For walks…

Now that I love you,

Curled like an old mongrel

My life lies content

In you…

You planned to tame a swallow, to hold her

In the long summer of your love so that she would forget

Not the raw seasons alone, and homes left behind, but

Also her nature, the urge to fly, and the endless

Pathways of the sky…

To love. To freedom. To women.

To Madhavi Kutty.

To Kamala Das Suraiya. In her words. RIP (March 31, 1934-May 31, 2009)

Heyyy, thanks.

Talking To My Soul 1 June 2009 at 23:25

Yes Kesh, that was to WOMEN. For they are the best.

Kamala Das was one of modern India's finest poets. One who challenged the orthodox and took on the male bastion fearlessly. She wrote under the pen name of Madhavi Kutty too. Google Kamala Das and you will find how her words packed so much fire.

Keshi 2 June 2009 at 07:01

gee tnxx! I will google her now :)

Pauline 3 June 2009 at 18:07

Nothing really, Agnes. My mind is kind of blank these days.

~vagabond~ 8 June 2009 at 05:04

I dont know whether they are her words or yours...either way they are absolutely beautiful. :)

Talking To My Soul 8 June 2009 at 12:45

Heyy, good to see you again.

By the way, the words were not mine; those belong to Kamala Das. Beautiful they indeed are.

Thanks for remembering to drop by.

Talking To My Soul 8 June 2009 at 12:47

Did you mean Moin Khan, the smart wicketkeeper batsman of Pakistan? He was a tremendous player. Never got to meet him though.

Jo 8 June 2009 at 16:05

A well written tribute...

Agnes 9 June 2009 at 01:31

Yes, yes and yes :-)

Talking To My Soul 9 June 2009 at 02:45

Heyy Jo. Welcome here. Your tribute was darn cool. It said a lot about your passion for poetry and appreciation of Kamala Das' life and work.

Thanks for arriving here.

Talking To My Soul 9 June 2009 at 02:46

That was cool. Moin Khan. I alwaus wanted to meet Inzamam Ul haq. I am a fan of that burly chap. Such a tremendous cricketer.

WarmSunshine 9 June 2009 at 09:15

You have such a refined taste for poetry :)

When are you gonna start writing your own?

Talking To My Soul 9 June 2009 at 11:59

Welcome back, Mehreen.

Thanks for the generous words. But I hardly understand poetry. Just a passion I cant explain myself. And so far as writing myself is concerned, I am not that good at it. Have tried a couple on this blog, have not I?

Thanks for returning.

Heyyy, you disabled your comment section in the last post??? :D I checked in to see the replies and the first thought was did I leave my comment at the wrong post yesterday? What happened, dear?

Thanks for always being here.

Keshi 19 June 2009 at 09:20

Trevor Penn 20 June 2009 at 16:57

A befitting tribute, Soul.

Talking To My Soul 21 June 2009 at 14:57

You did good. Blogville dramas must find another place to thrive. Your place is too good for all this. Let the dramas go elsewhere.

We want Kesh unadulterated. Now and always.
